Pain Meds and Kidney Cancer

By Longevity March 20, 2013

Transcript:

In a recent minute, I discussed studies showing that 16,500 Americans die each year, and 120,000 are hospitalized annually due to complications from the use of over-the-counter pain relievers. On February 20 a group of researchers from Harvard published one more worrisome study on the subject. They are reporting that people who use non-aspirin, NSAIDs such as Advil and Motrin, have a 51% increase in the risk of getting a form of kidney cancer. And that people who use acetaminophen, which is the generic name for Tylenol, have 28% increase risk of kidney cancers compared to those who do not use these medications. It appears that the risk increases the longer you take these medications. This doesn’t mean that you need to

Lutein And Night Vision

By Longevity March 20, 2013

Transcript:

Most of us recall that as children we were told to eat carrots to improve our night vision. Now a scientific study has validated grandma’s advice. It turns out that while carrots do help, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, kale and collard greens all do the same thing. A recent research group enrolled 120 healthy long distance truckers who are on the road an average of 10 hours a day. They took either 20 mg of lutein or placebo each day for one year. At the end of the year, their eyes were carefully examined. The macula, that part of the eye responsible for detailed vision, was found to have more pigment and greater sensitivity in those who took the lutein, as opposed to those on placebo. They had less glare at night, and were

High Intensity Exercise vs Aerobic Exercise

By Longevity February 18, 2013

Transcript:

Over the decades aerobic exercise has developed into a quasi-cult. But the latest science tells us that short intense bursts of exercise are more efficient at shifting our metabolism than long stretches of aerobic activity. If you change your exercise routine into four or five short intense bursts of exercise that leave you breathless, separated by three or four minutes of gentle exercise that allow you to recover, your body quickly shifts into fat burning mode. Studies show that these bursts of activity separated by gentle rest periods effectively lower your risk of diabetes, increase fat burning and enhance both sexuality and mental acuity. The great advantage is that 15 or 20 minutes of exercise in this pattern is

Diabetes: Cure or Remission?

By Longevity February 18, 2013

Transcript:

With an aggressive cutting-edge program, over 70% of type 2 diabetics can be returned to normal blood sugars; normal insulin levels have no further need for diabetic medications. The question is, are these patients in remission or have they been cured? In my practice, I have found that with a combination of innovative hormonal support, increased physical activity, and significant diet changes, most type 2 diabetics can effectively be returned to normal. I usually tell them that they have been cured. But some physicians prefer to say that these patients are in remission, because if they were to return to their old lifestyle, their diabetes may return. But if all of their tests are normal, how can I claim that they are still

Estrogen is a Class of Hormones

By Longevity February 18, 2013

Transcript:

Estrogen is not a hormone; it's a class of hormones. Almost every living thing makes some form of estrogen, including plants and animals. But the estrogens found in plants are quite different than the estrogens found in animals. And each species of animal has his own unique mixture of estrogens. Human beings make a unique mixture of estrogens not produced by any other animal on the planet. But traditionally, when women go to the doctor for treatment of their menopausal symptoms 95% of the time they are given a compound known as conjugated equine estrogens. These are estrogens extracted from the urine of pregnant horses, and represent a mixture of estrogens that are quite different from those normally produced by human beings.
